What is my liability as the renter?

During the handover process you are accepting that the item is accurately described, fit for purpose and safe to use, therefore you are liable for loss of or damage to the item.

 

Think of it this way, if a friend lent you their kayak and the paddle broke whilst you were using it, you'd probably cough up and buy your friend another paddle!
